So happy I could cry – D&D4e is here…

Our gaming group came up with a cunning plan. It was devious. Truly we were geniuses. You see, we all live in Australia, and for some reason, the boxed set of the Brand Spanking New and Completely Awesome New Version of D&D was TWICE the price here than in the USA even considering the exchange rate.

So it was obvious – we’d ship them in from Amazon. Four boxed sets. Awesome…

Until Amazon decided to screw with our plans. Delay after delay meant that we had to wait months while everyone else was enjoying the new game.

Now, we weren’t completely bereft of D&D4e goodness – I had buckled and bought my gf a copy of the PHB on release day and inexplicably Amazon shipped the one member of our group who only ordered the PHB a week after the release day – so we were still able to tease ourselves about it…

Anyway… more later… have to read now…

About RupertG

RupertG has been playing roleplaying games ever since he discovered Dragon Warriors at the age of 12. Since those days he has played many different RPG's, collected not insignificant Dwarf and Tomb Kings armies for Warhammer Fantasy Battles and even worked as a games designer in the heady days of the late 90's building a CCG. Now he runs a game/nerd blog and GM's a D&D campaign.

I really do love 4th, but my main complaint is that a lot of the things I love to do have essentially been taken away. Namely, rolling for new hit points at each level. Now, you just get X hit points based on your class. I need to roll more, not less, damnit!

(Also, I rolled 4d6 keep 3 for my current 4th ed character. My DM is a Mathemetician and looked at me like I was looney when I went to do that rather than use the book’s charts and tables. Sigh…. kids these days. :/ )

Yeah, I have quite a lot I want to day about the new edition, but I’m saving that for the weekend extended post… :)

I scoff at non-4d6-drop one rolling styles! Seriously… Such a sad state of affairs…

The only thing to be mindful of is that if we are using dice, make sure everyone does. You’ll get higher results using 4d6 than all the other standardized methods in the PHB.

I have already said on the Forums that if you are building the character at home, you have to use the arrays, otherwise if you are building your character at Games Night, you get to roll 4d6 drop 1.

Of course, house rules can change things around if you want – why not just roll HD instead of taking the official hit point gain?

I’m looking forward to getting my grubby little paws on these.

The 4d6drop1 method gave me a sucky character :(

    …and Cuchulain an AWESOME one… Wonderful stuff… :)

    Heh heh.

    Marmadoc’s sister is an embarrassment.

This is going to be fun.
