Team Fortress 2. In case you didn’t know, it’s a First Person Shooter game, built on the Half Life 2 engine. And it’s incredible. It’s the First Person Shooter for everyone. It caters for every gameplay type you could want, in addition to having a huge focus on teamwork, far more than any other game I’ve played. Also, you can buy the game online for a mere US$20, or US$10 during some promotions. I challenge you to find any half-decent modern game for that kind of price; more on that below.
For those who know nothing about it, TF2 may need some introducing. Let’s do this the interesting way, via the internetz! Oh, and movies. Specifically, the developers have made several videos introducing the classes. Try these on for size:
Want more? Here’s more. Interested? Keep reading.

As I mentioned, the game caters for every style of play you could possibly want:

- Double-jumping with a sawn-off shotgun: Play the Scout.
- Rocket jumping front line maniac: Play the Soldier.
- Ambusher: Play the Pyro.
- Unkillable juggernaut with a minigun: Play the Heavy.
- Explosives expert with remote bombs: Play the Demoman.
- Sniper: Play the Sniper (duh)
But that’s not all! Team Fortress 2 also has 3 very unique classes:
- Play Engineer: Build an automatic Sentry Gun to kill people for you!
- Play Medic: Heal your team, then make them INVULNERABLE to break through the enemy lines!
- Play Spy: Go invisible, disguise as the enemy, then backstab them only to vanish again!
Giggling yet?
If you’ve got this far and haven’t watched the videos, go watch them. Seriously. Even if you don’t play the game, you’ll thank me.
If you buy it here, through the Steam system, it’s dirt cheap. However, if you don’t already own Half-Life 2, I would recommend purchasing the Orange Box, also very cheap. I’ve heard tons of people say to me that they loved Half-Life 1, but they’ve never played Half-Life 2. This is silly: it’s a better game. The Orange Box contains Half-Life 2, the first 2 episodic expansions, TF2, and the amazingly fantastical puzzle game Portal.
Suffice to say, as far as I’m concerned, Team Fortress 2 is one of the best games out there.
