Using the Dungeon Tile Mapper from WotC

Dungeon Tile MapperIf you are anything like us here at Dice of Doom HQ, the moment you got D&D 4E you rushed out and bought a stack of Dungeon Tiles once you realised how important (and awesome) they were. After collecting a whole box of these tiles though it can be hard designing dungeons based on what tiles you actually have in your collection. Fortunately Wizards of the Coast have you covered.

Dungeon Tile Mapper is a flash app that allows you to create maps based on the tile sets published by WotC. Before you get too excited, you will actually need the tiles first before this is useful as it only prints a small map showing the layout of the dungeon/town/maze/etc (or you could learn to make your own…). The application is usable on the WotC site, as well as a download that you can use on your own computer and allows you to save tile sets, print out a summary view and experiment with different layouts in a easily usable fashion.

To use the Dungeon Tile Mapper, all you need to do is select the tile set that you want to use, choose the tile that you want to place and click and drag onto the map grid. The usual tools are all available as well like rotate, bring forward, send back, save and print. One of the most handy features that it has is the ability to keep track of the tiles that you have available. You let the program know how many sets you have and as you use them, it removes tiles from the available pool. The tiles that they include with the application detailed enough to give a real feel for the dungeon that you are creating and make the job of designing maps an absolute breeze.

The application can be used here, downloaded here, with full instructions here.
