Going through our archives we realised that we had a significant lack of articles about Steampunk awesomeness. In a effort to make up for this travesty we would like to highlight the most excellent webcomic FreakAngels written by Warren Ellis and illustrated by Paul Duffield. Set in England in a post-apocalyptic future, the story follows twelve children (now mostly grown up) as the reasons for the apocalypse and their role in it are revealed. From the first panel:
23 years ago, twelve strange children were born in England at exactly the same moment.
6 years ago, the world ended.
This is the story of what happened next.
FreakAngels is pretty much the quintessential steampunk story – there’s steam powered gyrocopters, gunfights, post-apocalyptic awesomeness, psychics, intrigue – it has everything. The story is well written and the drawings are beautiful – well worth checking out.
The story has been collected into three volumes (so far) available for order online here.
