Designer Mike Thompson has created a lamp that is powered by human blood. His intention was to show how the importance of energy to human existence and how the overexploitation of aforementioned energy could bring about our end. In the process though, he appears to have created one of the most gothic forms of lighting we have ever seen.
The bulb comes as a sealed light bulb looking glass container. The top is then broken off, the user puts in a tablet of some funky chemical. For the last (and most interesting) step – you cut your finger on the edge of the bulb that you have just broken and use a drop of your blood to energise the light.
While this can hardly be seen as a convenient way of lighting the house it would certainly be a interesting talking point at dinner parties. Particularly if you had one sitting in front of each guest…
Better still – imagine using this lamp during a Vampire: The Masquerade game…
