Yesterday marked the 30th anniversary of Pac-Man, the maze game created by Tōru Iwatani and published by Namco and Midway. To mark the occasion, many of you would have noticed that Google updated their logo to a playable version of the game. Unknown to some, however, was that you could turn it into a two player game by adding an extra coin to the slot and getting Mrs Pac-Man will join the fray. With the end of the birthday Google replaced their logo with the normal one and, for a brief moment, Google PacMan was no longer available… or was it…?
If you want to continue playing the Google Pac-Man (and who doesn’t), Google has kept it alive at Google Pac-Man. If you want to download it and play it offline as much as you like, the guys at GitHub have downloaded it (and provided some handy-dandy instructions on setting it up) here.
Instructions
- Start the game by either waiting or double-clicking on the Pac-Man.
- You can control Pac-Man by using the arrow keys.
- You add more coins to the game by hitting the “Insert Coins” button which replaces the “I’m Feeling Lucky” button that normally sits underneath the search bar.
- Mrs Pac-Man is controlled by using the WASD keys.
Namco have also put up a website celebrating the occasion which you can find here.
