What did historical swords weigh?

For many of us who have an active interest in fantasy RPG’s, visualising our characters and their experiences is an integral part of the fun. But for many/most of us, we have little experience of the actual physical form of many of the important objects we imagine our characters handling. Perhaps the most obvious example is historical weaponry. As this article on the ARMA website (The Association for Renaissance Martial Arts) shows, the modern reproductions of medieval and renaissance weaponry can be quite far off the mark. It’s an excellent treatment of the physical nature of medieval and renaissance swords, their weight, bulk and handling.

About Paul

Cuchulain (otherwise known as Paul) has been playing roleplaying games since he was 10 years old. Although he'll play any game under the sun, he prefers characterisation and plot over tactics and mechanics. He is never happier than when playing in or mastering a horror campaign - preferably with heavy Cthulhu Mythos overtones or theme.
