So your players have gotten too rich: Dealing with a Monty Haul Campaign

We’ve all been in that position when running a roleplaying campaign. That moment when you realise that you have allowed your players to amass more wealth than is healthy. All of a sudden they are buyingtheir way out of the challenges that you place before them, there’s no magic item they can’t afford and all of a sudden they are building a huge palace or fortress on prize real estate. And then, when the locallord gets upset, they either buy him off or raise an army and go and crush him. Yes, we’ve all been there and had to deal with it in one way or the other. Call of Cthulhu 30th Anniversary Edition – time running out to order

First published in 1981, Call of Cthulhu has become one of the most iconic roleplaying games ever printed. It has set the benchmark for horror gothic roleplaying gaming and has introduced countless players to the world and works of HP Lovecraft and the Cthulhu Mythos. Since the second edition of the rules, its core mechanic has remained largely unchanged as well, putting it in a rare group of games from the 1980′s to still be using its original rule system. Now in its 30th year of publication Chaosium are celebrating by printing a special edition of the 6th edition rulebook. Continue reading

If you haven’t seen it, the mad buggers over at BrickWorld 2011 decided to build all the major scenes from Lord of the Rings using nothing but lego. It’s all there, Isengard with the Tower of Orthanc, The Golden Hall of Edoras, Rivendell, and the Mines of Moria. The most spectacular building is Minas Tirith – complete with literal hordes of minifigures attacking it. You can see the whole thing with an explanation of the build, at MOCpages. Continue reading
